Tai Chi Bournemouth Curriculum

Taijiquan

We are now focused on teaching the Masich Internal Arts Method curriculum of 5 section taijiquan. This is a program that has been devised by Master Sam Masich. It is ideal for beginners as it is based on the widely practiced Yang style “Beijing 24 step” which was created in 1956 to be more accessible to the masses in China. They could do this from in roughly 5-7 minutes instead of the much longer traditional 108 step which takes between 20-40 minutes.

It gives a wonderful base for anyone who wants to go further with their tai chi training. Not only does it have a solo hand form, It also includes a two person partner form, a sword form and a two person sword from. It can also lead on to learning 5 section Chen style.

It encompasses many “core principles” of taijiquan. Where the form and movements can be explained in a more digestible way to the practitioner.

This would be ideal for anyone who is willing to invest some time into learning a “form”. It’s very rewarding as it challenges you to learn new ways to move the body.

Shibashi Tai Chi Qigong

This style of qigong is based on some of the Yang style taijiquan movements. It was created in 1979 by Professor Lin Hou-Sheng from China.

It was developed to increase one’s health and wellbeing. The exercises work the body in a gentle way to stimulate the flow of energy and fluids. Increasing lung capacity, improving the digestive system, stretching muscles and tissues and improving balance.

This set of exercises can be performed by all ages. It is most commonly done standing but can also be done sat in a chair and adapted to suit the practitioners needs. Perfect if you are either in good health or recovering from injury or have restricted movement.

Although it can be studied to great depth, it is also relatively simple to follow along to as the movements are generally repeated a few times before moving on to the next one.
